An SR engine makes his beloved Majesta agile! Shinada runs RS Profile, a shop specializing in Silvia tuning. When he acquired the Majesta he had always wanted, he built a serious contender with an SR engine mounted in a front-mid position.

Installing Nissan's SR20DET in a Toyota luxury sedan packed with comfort features was no easy job. The drivetrain position was settled relatively straightforwardly by modifying the engine crossmember and driveshaft. But replacing the wiring with an S13 harness caused problems with the speed-sensitive power steering...

...and electric tilt steering. He modified part of the Majesta's steering rack to provide constant hydraulic pressure and transplanted the Silvia steering assembly to make everything work. The SR swap has a major effect: compared with the original 4-liter 1UZ, the handling is transformed.

Seeing this heavyweight body sliding sideways is spectacular. Future weight reduction with FRP doors and acrylic windows should make its performance even more impressive!

The wiring and instruments are Silvia items. Because controlling the electric tilt steering was difficult, the steering shaft was also transplanted from the Silvia. All the pedals, including accelerator and clutch, came from it too.

The Silvia handbrake ended up too far back, requiring an extended lever. Since the Majesta's normal exhaust route passes beneath the transmission, it was changed to a side exit. The twin outlets improve both appearance and clearance.

More power with a TD06 turbo! A TD06-20G setup had produced nearly 400 ps from an engine using X-Trail pistons, but that engine failed. On this day it ran a standard engine instead. Perhaps because of the lack of power, it unfortunately did not qualify. Management combines an S13 ECU with e-Manage. The intake plenum is custom-made, and the pipework uses titanium to reduce weight.

This month's

An unconventional contender

We discovered an exceptionally unusual car while covering the ORC Drift Challenge. Watching it run, we thought, 'There's something strange about that sound!' A check back in the paddock revealed an engine swap most people would never imagine.

An engine swap makes an impact in both sound and performance!

Most of the controls also came from a Silvia!

Full Admiration aero is fitted, with a Turbo A duct added for intercooler cooling. The 19-inch wheels preserve its VIP-car character. The hood uses a URAS Aero-bon with the vents filled using body filler. The Nismo and Copper Mix stickers are, of course, there for a laugh. The wheel name is unclear in the OCR.

Drifting

Doing it in the car you love

is best!

'I love drifting, but I also love VIP cars—I normally drive a Century. A body bigger than a Tourer and a luxurious front end: sending a car like this sideways in clouds of tire smoke really stands out! And it sounds like an SR, too. That makes quite an impact!'
