Excellent value, with usable low speed torque! An FC3S needs a turbo swap to reach roughly 350 PS, whereas an FD3S can approach that figure with a boost increase alone. That may seem sufficient, but Suzuki, who competes in the Advan Drift Meeting, says few engines suit a turbo upgrade as well as the FD's rotary.

Turbo swaps on Silvias and Skylines often sacrifice low rpm response; on a rotary, the replacement can produce more torque down low than the original. The turbo can transform the engine's character. Suzuki chose a T04S when Pan Speed overhauled his engine.

It is Pan Speed's top recommendation because it can target 400 PS with the original injectors and fuel pump. Suzuki loves its response when he presses the throttle; the F-CON V Pro's airflow meter deletion probably helps too. Despite producing 400 PS, it pulls strongly from low rpm, better than the original turbo and, he feels, any turbocharged or naturally aspirated car he has driven.

It now pulls strongly in third gear, making the link from Mobara's S bends to the final corner much easier. Extra power also makes mistakes easier to recover from. He is enjoying the wider range of control and experimenting with different lines.

More power does more than let you drive aggressively with higher speed and thicker smoke. Choosing the right turbo can make the power easier to use than stock and make drifting easier. Suzuki struggled after switching to an FD3S, but with 400 PS he can now link corners that previously defeated him.

From the manufacturer

The T04S can be driven effectively by a standard rotary engine. Its price is comparable to a factory replacement turbo, making it a recommended upgrade during an overhaul. Previously there was no FD3S kit, so owners often adapted the T04E kit. A dedicated T04S kit joined the range this August.

A boost increase is enough to drift, but more power makes it much more fun! Hearing that certainly makes a turbo swap tempting.
