From the manufacturer: This twin plate clutch targets 400–500 PS cars specifically for drifting. Its torque capacity is comparable to a 600 PS twin plate, but clean disengagement was prioritized to minimize drivetrain stress even under hard use. It was a limited production model, with some remaining stock. A new product using its characteristics is also planned. — Yoshida, automotive equipment division.

From the manufacturer: Drifting loads a clutch more heavily than normal use, so we recommend capacity above the usual horsepower rating. A single plate can handle 400 PS, but a twin plate is preferable for drifting. TS2B is our conventional twin plate; TS2BD adds a damper. Friction material can also be changed to suit the application. Please consult us. — Shimoyama, sales.

From the manufacturer: For drifting, which is tough on the drivetrain, we recommend the twin plate GD Clutch Max. Engagement springs let the discs engage progressively during partial engagement, creating a surprisingly light, controllable feel for a twin plate. Although rated for 600 PS, drivability was the main priority, making it comfortable on the street too. — Koyama, public relations.

For a 400 PS drift car

Don't forget an upgraded clutch when increasing power. If it slips, the engine tuning is wasted! We asked clutch manufacturers what they recommend for a 400 PS drift car. Their products have different selling points, so compare them carefully.

What is cover clamping force? It is the force with which the clutch cover presses the disc. As the friction facing wears, clamping force can fall and the clutch may begin slipping.

What does torque capacity mean?

What does supported horsepower mean? It is an approximate guide to the power range a clutch can handle. Clutch capacity is actually specified by torque, so horsepower is only a reference. Even a clutch rated for 400 PS can be overloaded if engine torque exceeds its rating...

Two measurement methods are used: dynamic and static friction, also called dynamic and static torque. Dynamic capacity is the torque transmitted while the clutch is slipping; static capacity is the torque at which it begins to slip. Manufacturers differ in which figure they quote, so check when choosing.

From the manufacturer: Based on the standard 409D with different discs. Choose a damperless version for response on engagement, or a quiet version without the characteristic rattling. It supports 400 PS, but that is near its limit; frequent clutch kicking favors the D1 series. — Yoshida, automotive equipment division.
