…is the concept! Silvia S14 — Yuji Fukuda, age 20 . His first car after getting his license; he insisted on a late model and spent three months finding one. He began drifting seriously two months ago and visits this pass most weekends. Takebayashi of the orange-car group keeps telling him to repaint it orange, but he declines because he wants a subtle, cool style.

Arms turbo kit; Tomei Powered Poncam; HKS air cleaner; BCNR33 factory intercooler; [brand damaged] three-row radiator; Earl's 15-row oil cooler; Tein [series damaged] coilovers; OS Giken Super [model damaged] LSD; BN [aero description truncated]. Front: Neova 215/40-17 on [brand damaged] Minerva 9J-17. Rear: RevSpec 235/40-18 on [brand damaged] Minerva 10J wheels [diameter/offset continuation separate].

This time, Tanaka of TSF, a skilled driver in F Prefecture, introduced us to a spot: ‘There's a pass where people think the Drift Stage camera crew might turn up someday. Besides the local regulars, lots of visitors from other prefectures have recently been coming and driving enthusiastically.’ We left Tokyo worried that too many cars might gather. Unfortunately, torrential rain was forecast for F Prefecture; rain began en route, and by our arrival just after 1 am it was pouring as predicted.

Only six cars were driving, although there seemed to be more than 20 spectators. We explained the reporting purpose and began judging the pass's top driver, but the rain was too heavy to drive. While waiting for it to ease, team leader Takenaka and I inspected the local drivers' cars [historical street-driving report].

10J wheels fit with only folded arch lips!

He bought his Professor wheels new. At the rear, 18-inch 10J wheels fit with only the arch lips folded. The fenders sometimes rub the tires, but he says the contact is only on the sidewalls and has little effect on driving [owner's claim].

Silvia PS13 — [surname damaged] Mitsuru, age 23 . A street-focused driver who rarely visits circuits. He practices quietly on weekdays to show the weekend spectators impressive driving, coming to this mountain pass three times a week. For weekends, he chooses tires that produce plenty of white smoke; Dunlop Le Mans are his favorites.

To stand out on weekends…

‘Subtle and cool’…

…drive properly!

It can still…

Apparently more power makes this pass more enjoyable, so the engine uses a Tomei Arms turbo and Poncam camshafts to produce 380 PS. He has also made the engine bay look clean, including painting the head cover .

He fitted early-model 180SX turn signals. The candy-blue respray was his own work.

Our guide, Tanaka, has previously appeared in Newcomer and Hot Twin features. Recently he has entered more contests to earn D1 eligibility, but still comes here to drive. He says the pass is riskier than a circuit, but precise alignment lets him drive hard. His engine combines a T517Z with high-lift cams and produces 350 PS .
