…but this was our first sight of an AE111 Carib with a Levin face. It looks completely natural and very cool. You might expect major surgery, but apart from making hybrid fenders from two sets, the hood and bumper reportedly bolted on.

The original Carib core support even accepts the Levin headlights without modification. What a discovery: the Carib truly is a wagon version of the Levin! This AE111G BZ Touring is the sportiest grade and uses a 20-valve 4A-G.

The Levin-like internals provide strong performance. Morimura's car has intake and exhaust…

…a serious specification. His determination to modify an uncommon car brought it this far. He's already planning a 3S engine swap, so future development should be exciting. ‘My technique is still immature, so I'd like more practice before going to a circuit. But the pleasure of catching spectators' attention on the pass is fantastic—I can't give up the street for a while!’ Morimura said enthusiastically. [Historical quotation]

…tuning for about 170 hp…

And that too…

Just like a Levin! From this photo, it could be a Levin engine bay. As the sporty BZ Touring grade, it has the same 4A-G as an AE111. The air filter is an HKS Power Flow, the manifold Fujitsubo, and a lightweight TRD flywheel improves response. Notice how naturally the headlights fit too.

…apparently. With 16-inch rear wheels, it drifts beautifully! A wagon flying sideways on a mountain pass is surprising and wins spectators over. The suspension and engine are properly modified too.

The left and right fenders combine Levin and Carib panels. With spacers, they apparently fit the Carib's original bolt holes. The hood only required shifting the body-side hinge positions…

The Carib is worth considering for an FF drift wagon! A Levin-face conversion makes it stylish.

Taking the plunge…

I'm glad I did the front-end swap!

‘I couldn't find Carib aero parts I liked. Then I remembered the dealer saying it was almost the same as an AE111, and wondered if the front might fit. I was nervous asking for the work, but I'm completely happy with the result! …it passed inspection without trouble.’

The overall length increased slightly, but…

A gorgeous interior too! The outside is sporty, while the interior is clean and comfortable like a modern wagon. Both seats are König, with navigation and a DVD player. Being a wagon makes carrying tires easy!

The coilovers are JIC units for an AE111. Front and rear TRD anti-roll bars come from an AE101. Front rotors are AP Lockheed with ; rear Endless pads emphasize initial bite. His recent problem is driveshafts breaking quickly. That day a damaged boot was also found, leaving grease across the floor.

Both ends use Volk Racing , 16 × 7.5J. Front tires are Revspecs and the rears are M701s…

…his favorites.
