Page 163 — English translation

Hiroyuki Kaneko, 28, Hokkaido, Trueno AE86. Kyoshiro is one of Hokkaido's famous established teams, apparently mainly AE86s. The simple exterior has a street-driver feel. A black body without side skirts and chrome stickers looks tough—even the windshield banner is black. Practice runs had momentum and good throttle commitment, but unfortunately he didn't qualify.

Yoshikuni Kita, 31, Hokkaido, Lancer Evolution V CP9A. This isn't an FR conversion: that angle comes from genuine 4WD! The slow shutter speed helps the photo, but the impact is tremendous. Kita is a four-wheel-drift expert previously featured several times in Drift Tengoku. His drift Evo with full GP Sports aero, wide fenders and a GT wing may be unique. We'd love to show it in motion!

No complaints about the angle!

Rei Matsutani

Age 24, Hokkaido, Silvia S14. An early S14 without stickers looks understated, but full-countersteer driving is anything but! This angle on a wet entry is impressive. Stable runs took him into the top eight…

…he finished.

A tough, no-frills style!

Throttle commitment…

Aggressive driving draws everyone's eyes!

Takayuki Ono, 27, Hokkaido, Laurel C33. Exhibiting at Sapporo Auto Salon brought him into the spotlight as a local rising star. A leading favorite that day, his angle and speed were outstanding. Continuous throttle without handbrake speed adjustment impressed the judges, but the transmission unexpectedly failed in the final.

Boldly attacking the inside!

Nobumasa Hayashi, 32, Hokkaido, 180SX RPS13. The familiar G-GROW demo car has fascinating fixed headlights. By the end of judging, mud made the inside barriers impossible to see, putting Hayashi—last in the running order—at a disadvantage. Even so, he attacked right along the inside edge. Nice!

More imposing than a WRC car!

Tourer

Hironori Kawamura, 25, Hokkaido, Mark II JZX90. The bumper opening was enlarged to suit the big intercooler. It's simple and low, with details such as transplanted Majesta door handles. Dark windows combined with chrome items look mature and stylish.

…far ahead of the rest!

Yuki Baba, 22, Hokkaido, Levin AE86. Second place secured D1 entry. The judges disliked the pair of steeply upward-pointing exhaust pipes, but highly praised his driving! Despite the torrential rain, his throttle commitment was excellent from the very first practice run.
