Extensible soft types now dominate where wire once was common. They soften the jolt between the vehicles, are gentler on the body and reduce the chance of a slack rope being caught under the following vehicle, making them easier for beginners. Wire is cheaper but does not absorb shock, requiring more skill.

Its lack of extension can suit pulling distorted bodywork, and its abrasion resistance helps in difficult recoveries. Repeated use reduces strength, so replace ropes periodically: wet and dry cycles degrade soft ropes, and wire can rust.

Cretom offers two extensible types. Fluorescent orange and white nylon make them visible. This version is rated at two tonnes, keeping cost low while providing the intended strength.

D shackle hooks and 8 mm wire provide ample strength for ordinary car towing. Six sizes from 6 to 18 mm are offered.

Woven nylon extends to 3.5 m and absorbs shock. Quick attaching hooks include a spring latch against accidental release.

Quick attaching G hooks include anti detachment features. Despite the low price, strength is retained. Blue vinyl protects the wire from corrosion.

Hooks match the company's Safety Rope. Special plastic fibers are twisted together and extend slightly to absorb towing shock.
